To become an Endocrinologist you must already be a qualified medical doctor MD. This requires:

  1. Obtaining a suitable Bachelor’s degree (health science, pharmacy, nursing, science etc).
  2. Passing the Graduate Australian Medical School Admissions Test (GAMSAT).
  3. Completing a Doctor of Medicine (MD).
  4. Working as an intern at a hospital for at least one year.
  5. Obtaining general medical registration through the Medical Board of Australia.
Once you are a registered MD you must apply to the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (RACP) to undertake specialist training. This includes 3 years of clinical training in Adult Internal Medicine and another 3 years of Advanced Training in Endocrinology.
