In the Education Major, you will develop an understanding of educational theory and practice, particularly as it applies to adult learning in professional, community and informal settings. In the first half of the major, you will learn about the ‘what’, ‘how’ and ‘why’ of teaching. You will be introduced to Australian and international standards for teaching across different sectors, as well as the educational theory that underpins those standards. You will develop the foundational capabilities for planning, facilitating and assessing effective learning encounters.

You will learn how to apply your foundational knowledge and skills to respond in diverse educational contexts and the inclusive teaching practices required to engage learners in varied environments. You will consider issues of equity and diversity in education, develop greater understanding of the social and emotional dimensions of learning, and create effective approaches to teaching in digital and rural or isolated settings. You will be able to plan and deliver education and training in workplace, community, digital and non-formal learning contexts, taking an inclusive approach to the policies and practices that are necessary to deliver quality education.
