Certificate III in Early Childhood Education and Care
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)This qualification reflects the role of educators in early childhood education and care who work in regulated children’s education and care services in Australia. They support children’s wellbeing, and development in the context of an approved learning framework. Educators use a range of well-developed skills and knowledge using discretion and judgment when carrying out their work in the context of established policies and procedures. They may work independently or under the guidance of others, though in some contexts that guidance may not be on-site.
Early childhood educators work in long day care centres, family day care, pre-schools or kindergartens.
To achieve this qualification, the individual must have completed a total of least 160 hours of work in a regulated children’s education and care service in Australia as detailed in the Assessment Requirements of units of competency. The total number of hours may be applied collectively across all units of competency that include the requirement for workplace hours.

Entry requirements
Domestic Students
- There are no mandated entry requirements.
There is no pre-requisites or specific entry requirement for this qualification. This course is available to all international students and Penfold College requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:
- Have demonstrated an IELTS level at a score of at least 6.0 or equivalent or demonstration of successful completion of at least General English at Advanced level or English for Academic Purposes at Advanced level.
- Successfully meets the requirements and satisfies the criteria of Genuine Student Test.
- Must have sound digital literacy and access to working internet and access to working PC or laptop with a configuration suitable to meet study requirements. Please seek your trainer/assessor assistance in this regard.
- Have a suitable level of language, literacy and numeracy to complete course requirements with or without additional support that the CRICOS provider is able to provide.
- Are at least at age of 18 on the date of course commencement.
- Have successfully completed Australian year 12 or equivalent OR minimum of 2 years of industry experience OR be of mature age with sound literacy and numeracy skills.
- Student must obtain a valid Working with Children Check and a AFP National Police Check certificate with no criminal records reported/recorded. These documents are to be obtained by students at their own cost.
