Disability carers provide general household assistance, emotional support, care and companionship for aged and disabled persons in their own homes.
In Australia, disability services are managed by each individual state and territory. The national agenda and reforms, however, are determined by a collective group called the Community and Disability Services Ministers’ Advisory Council (CDSMAC). The Council is comprised of a representative from each state and territory to drive matters of mutual interest and progress key national reforms in the areas of social and subsidised housing (excluding homelessness), child protection, disability, carers, seniors, concessions, disaster recovery and community services.
Employment for this occupation rose very strongly in the past five years and in the long-term (ten years). Looking forward, employment for aged and disabled carers to November 2020 is expected to grow very strongly.
This is a very large occupation (134,000 in November 2018) suggesting that opportunities for aged and disabled carers should be available in most regions.
