Childcare First Aid
Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)HLTAID012 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting (replace old unit HLTAID004 Provide First Aid in an education and care setting) is aimed at educating support staff, educators and childcare workers with the skills and knowledge required for providing first aid care to infants, children, and adults.
This unit encompasses catering to several medical situations that need immediate assistance, such as bleeding, burns and fractures. The student will be taught incident reporting in a child-care setting, child physiology, managing medical conditions and responding to medical emergencies. It also covers CPR techniques and the utilisation of Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Upon successful completion, the student will demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge of Childcare First Aid and be aware of their legal responsibilities as a first aider. It will contribute towards approved First Aid, asthma and anaphylaxis training under the Education and Care Services National Law, and the Education and Care Services National Regulation (2011).
