This qualification aims to reflect the role of an entry-level clinical coder, who uses a range of skills and knowledge to analyse and code medical records according to relevant classifications.
Clinical coders are primarily responsible for translating health records into standardised codes.
These codes are required for state and commonwealth data reporting, health service planning and hospital funding models. As such, clinical coders play an essential role in Australia’s healthcare system by ensuring the quality and accuracy of important health data.
