This course uniquely offers the opportunity to learn from acclaimed Menzies School of Health Research professionals in the specialist areas of Indigenous health, global health, public health practice, and health research.

Global Health units

  • PHM566 - Chronic Conditions Control
  • In Australia, there has been a significant rise in the burden of disease attributed to chronic conditions. In this unit, we will explore the risk factors for the onset of chronic conditions from conception through to adulthood.

  • PHM570 - Epidemiology and Control of Communicable Disease
  • This unit is relevant to students interested in extending their skills and knowledge in epidemiology, relevant to the major infectious diseases of humans. It will introduce strategies for communicable disease control and surveillance, and methods for determining and interpreting normal epidemiological and numerical measurements for communicable diseases.

  • PHM592 - Global Health
  • This unit aims to analyze the global social, environmental, and political elements of the public health of populations. The major thematic areas are:

    • Globalisation and Health
    • International Development and Human Rights
    • Environment and Social Change and Health
  • PHM593 - Tropical Child and Adolescent Health
  • This unit explores what is meant by tropical child health, the key determinants of child health in tropical regions, and the public health approaches to maintaining and improving child health in tropical regions. It focuses primarily on children with some reference to youth <24 years of age.
