If you are looking for a management role in Aged and Community care you’ll need real world experience in the aged care sector, plus leadership and administration skills. A Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing), plus the Advanced Diploma of Community Sector Management would give you a strong understanding of the aged care sector — as well as skills in business, leadership, strategic planning and compliance. These courses could be achieved in under 2 years, but you are likely to need 3-5 years industry experience. To work in aged care (at any level) you also need a current first aid and CPR certificate, as well as an up-to-date influenza vaccination. Some aged care providers also require a national police check.

They manage finances, human resources, customer service, maintenance, food service, and workplace safety — plus ensure the organisation complies with the law and industry standards.
As an Aged Care Manager you may be answering to a Board of Directors or even a government department (if it’s a community service organisation) — and you’ll be working closing with team leaders as well as departmental supervisors.
