Case Manager

A Case Manager, also known in some circles as a case worker, plays a huge role in helping clients and patients get the support they need. In general, a case manager is involved in everything from the preliminary assessment and ongoing monitoring of a patient or client to helping develop an overall program of treatment for him or her. Case managers are required in a variety of speciality areas, including but not limited to mental health, alcohol and other drug addiction and child protection.

Case Managers are responsible for having a deep knowledge of the various medical and community service options available for clients and patients. While not often expected to provide medical support in terms of hands-on treatment, case managers help build treatment plans and help analyse the effectiveness of these programs. They also help patients with everyday administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and clarifying any issues with documentation.
