Electric Vehicle Mechanic careers

An Electric Vehicle Mechanic services, maintains, and repairs electric cars, vans, and other battery-powered vehicles. You might work at specialised EV workshops, dealerships, or large fleet maintenance facilities. Electric Vehicle Mechanics diagnose faults in drivetrains, high-voltage battery systems, and vehicle electronics. You'll use specialised diagnostic tools, perform EV safety procedures such as depowering (as taught in AURETH101 and AURETH011), replace components, and carry out regular servicing.

Many professionals begin their careers through EV training programs or an Electric Vehicle Short Course, with a strong focus on high voltage safety skills. As Australia moves toward sustainable transport, Electric Vehicle Mechanics play a key role in keeping EVs roadworthy. You'll need technical expertise, a passion for new technologies, and the ability to clearly communicate repairs and safety procedures to clients and colleagues.
