Diploma of Community Services

Nationally Recognised Vocational Education and Training (VET)

This qualification reflects the roles of community services, case management and social housing workers involved in the managing, coordinating and/or delivering of person-centred services to individuals, groups and communities.

At this level, workers have specialised skills in community services and work autonomously under broad directions from senior management. Workers are usually providing direct support to individuals or groups of individuals. Workers may also have responsibility for the supervision of other workers and volunteers and/or case management; program coordination or the development of new business opportunities.

This qualification is for very experienced community services sector workers and cannot be issued unless you have 100 hours of work or work experience at the appropriate level in a relevant community services setting. Please refer to the brochure for more details.

Work Placement

A minimum of 200 hours mandatory work experience is required for this qualification. Work experience must be undertaken within a community services workspace.

Entry requirements

Domestic Students

  • There are no mandated entry requirements.
  • Australian Year 12 Certificate of Education; or
  • International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IB) diploma; or
  • Successful completion of an Australian Qualifications Framework Certificate IV or higher qualification (where the language of instruction is English), or at a level in a framework that preceded the AQF that is equivalent to level 4 or above in the AQF; or
  • Display competence at Exit Level 3 in the Australian Core Skills Framework in both reading and numeracy. Skills Generation assesses a prospective students academic competence using the Australian Government approved assessment tool ‘Basic Key Skills Builder’ (BKSB)
