Volunteer Coordinator

The efforts of social welfare programs often rely on the dedication of groups of volunteers that are consistently turning over. From those still in school to dedicated adults, the helping hands of thousands of Australians form much of the backbone of some of the most treasured, impactful social welfare programs around the country. Volunteer coordinators are just as vital, charged with attracting, training and deploying volunteers throughout programs and services around the country.

While the general duties of a volunteer coordinator are similar from location to location, the exact responsibilities can change depending on which entity for which you're working. Sometimes you'll spend much of the year finding hundreds of staff to work one major event. Other times you'll be looking for volunteers to work regularly scheduled shifts in food pantries, homeless shelters and other ongoing community services. Volunteer coordinators must be well organised and excellent communicators. They often must use social media as well as traditional channels like mail and physical booths at various events to attract and enlist volunteers.
