This unit focuses on planning, instructing and evaluating instructional four wheel driving sessions to enable participants to achieve the skills and knowledge required to participate independently in four wheel driving activities.
This course applies to leaders working autonomously as four wheel drive instructors or program managers. This may include those working for private four wheel drive schools or clubs and are responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating four wheel drive programs and activities in varied terrain. This will require contingency planning for complex, non-routine situations.
This unit may also apply to leaders working for outdoor education and adventure providers, volunteer groups, non-profit organisations and government agencies.

You will learn to assess a fallen tree and see where the compression and tension stresses are. Most importantly, you can then decide whether you will open the track or report it to the authorities. If clearing the tree is beyond your training and abilities, it is always better to be safe than be sorry.
This course involves trimming and cutting felled trees with a chainsaw in a variety of work settings including forest, agriculture, domestic, local council and emergency services environment, as relevant to the units.

Learn moreDo you regularly tow a trailer, caravan or other vehicle? Ensure that your tow vehicle and trailer or other vehicle are correctly set-up, level and balanced before heading off.
This course covers the competence required to drive and manoeuvre a trailer and includes identification and confirmation of work requirement, preparation for work, safe driving, manoeuvring and parking trailer, disconnecting the trailer from the tow vehicle and completion of work finalisation processes, including clean-up and documentation.
The work requires individuals to demonstrate judgement and problem-solving skills in managing their own work activities and contributing to a productive team environment.

This course also includes the skills needed to coordinate recovery of a 4WD vehicle using advanced techniques and equipment such as a recovery or snatch strap, winch and jack. This course includes the performance of maintenance and minor repairs on four wheel drive vehicles.
